There are different classes of healthy food. Each class has a specific function[s] in our bodies. There are foods which provide the body with energy and the main source of energy giving food are whole grains. The whole grains can be in form of rice, wheat and maize flour.
Then there is the class which consists of the kind of food that builds our bodies. Body building foods come from plants and animals. Leguminous plants like beans are the preferred category of foods that help to build our bodies and protect them from diseases.
Lastly there is the class which gives us vitamins and minerals. Vitamins are very important in our bodies and they protect us from diseases whereas mineral rich food helps to make our bodies strong. Vegetables and fruits are the main sources of vitamins. The main minerals needed by our bodies include: iron, calcium, and phosphorus. A healthy food must contain twice as much vitamin-giving food as the energy giving food.
In order to ensure healthy living, we must check on what we eat and we must find a way to combine the three classes of food. We should also get to know the quantities of each class that should be taken in a meal.
